Ndege on Thursday, 29 January, denied any involvement in the preparations and claimed to have washed his hands after it became clear that the federation did not have money to send the teams to Uganda

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) insists its besieged CEO Harold Ndege was fully involved in the bungled preparations that hit the national under-15 teams which took part in the Africa Football Association (AFS) tournament held in Uganda.

Ndege on Thursday, 29 January, denied any involvement in the preparations and claimed to have washed his hands after it became clear that the federation did not have money to send the teams to Uganda.

But the federation has in a three-page email detailed how Ndege was fully involved in the bungled preparations.

The federation issued a chronological account of Ndege’s involvement and even shared two letters written by the CEO to prove that he was actually aware of the preparations until the last minute.

Here is the chronology of events as issued by the federation.

1st October 2025

The FKF General Secretary (GS) received an email from the Football Development Director (FDD) seeking approval for the U15 technical staff. The email included a memo referencing ASFC regulations and a copy of the commitment letter jointly signed by the Ministry of Education, the FKF President, and the Ministry of Sports, confirming Kenya’s participation in the ASFC programme.

2nd October 2025

The GS responded, instructing the Football Development Director to allow the Kenya Academy of Sports (KAS) to undertake the recruitment process. The GS further directed that the Football Development Director liaise with the KAS Chief Executive Officer on the matter. Subsequently, the Football Development Director formally assigned the Head of Schools Football Programmes through an official email.

27th October 2025

The GS wrote to a CECAFA official, acknowledging receipt of documents related to the ASFC programme and directing that the Football Development Director be included in all communications concerning the ASFC.

10th November 2025

The GS was formally informed by CAF of the ASFC draw. Participating countries were advised that any nation not ready to participate should clearly indicate non-participation before the draw. This communication was forwarded to the Football Development Director, who shared it with the Head of Schools Football Programmes. At this stage, no objection was raised by any office regarding Kenya’s participation.

23rd November 2025

The GS received a link to be completed by the Head of Schools Football Programmes, who completed the required information and reverted to the GS. This task had been formally assigned via an email dated 23rd November 2025, addressed to the Football Development Director and the Head of Schools Football Programmes.

25th November 2025

The GS was informed that the Kenya Academy of Sports (KAS) had not registered the players on the CAF CMS. Following consultations with the Technical Department, it was agreed that FKF should formally request an extension from CAF. The GS sent the request via email on 25th November 2025, and CAF responded the same day, granting Kenya an extension for player registration.

2nd December 2025

Following guidance from the Kenya Primary and Junior Schools Sports Association, the Head of Schools Football Programmes forwarded travel-related clearance documents for school-going players.

These documents required the GS’s signature before being shared with the FKF President and submitted to the Ministry of Education to seek clearance for the boys’ and girls’ teams to travel to Uganda. The GS signed and transmitted the documents to the Ministry on 2nd December 2025. Copies of these documents are currently held at Jogoo House, Ministry of Education.

5th December 2025

The GS raised concerns regarding the teams’ late arrival in Uganda. It was mutually agreed that FKF should formally notify CECAFA of Kenya’s confirmed participation and request a revision of fixtures in light of the late arrival. The GS communicated this via an official email sent on 5th December 2025.

“In as much as the CEO may deny knowledge of how the teams ultimately travelled to Uganda, the above chronology demonstrates that he was fully involved in every stage of the preparation, coordination, and approval process for the Kenya U15 teams’ participation in the ASFC tournament.

This confirms that the GS had full administrative oversight and operational involvement, irrespective of any subsequent statements by the GS regarding knowledge of the teams’ travel,” concluded the statement.
