Appearing before the committee chaired by Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama, Hussein moved to reassure Parliament that Kenya’s preparations remain firmly on course, despite concerns triggered by a recent CAF assessment report which highlighted gaps in infrastructure development among the three host nations.

He maintained that Kenya’s planning structures are progressing well and remain fully aligned with CAF standards and expectations.

“The overall preparedness and coordination mechanisms in place for hosting AFCON 2027 are on track. I am pleased to report that Kenya’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations are in excellent shape, proceeding on schedule and fully aligned with CAF’s requirements and expectations,” he told the committee.

Hussein further explained that, following guidance from CAF and a strategic review of lessons learned during CHAN 2024, the three East African host nations have moved away from separate national planning systems to a more integrated regional approach.

“On the advice of CAF, and following a strategic review of the lessons learned from CHAN 2024, the three host nations have adopted a unified and cohesive management approach in place of independent national planning frameworks, including the establishment of a joint ministerial oversight committee within the structures of the three LOCs,” he said.

He added that Kenya will be directly involved at the highest level of regional coordination, with senior government representation in the joint oversight structure guiding AFCON 2027 preparations.

“I am happy to inform you that, in the oversight committee for Pamoja for East Africa, I will be sitting together with our cabinet secretary and other senior officials in that body.

It is a privilege for us to be at the high table when it comes to matters of policy in this regard,” he noted.

The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, is scheduled to take place from Saturday, 19 June, to Saturday, 17 July 2027.
