FKFPL: Mara Sugar stun Tusker to keep up hot streak

Mara Sugar secured a third consecutive win for the first time this season, after securing a 1-0 victory over Tusker in a match played at the Police Sacco Stadium from 1400 hrs on Friday, 24 April.

The match began on a slow pace, with both teams struggling to find their footing in the opening five minutes, as posession was exchanged through missed passes.
Tusker had their opening chance in the sixth minute when Chrispine Erambo, playing in an advanced midfield role, took a shot that foced goalkeeper Joseph Ogenda to make a save.

From the result corner, Eugene Ikutwa found a chance and unleashed a low drive shot that went wide.
Robinson Musungu came into Mara’s rescue in the 15th minute, blocking off an Eric Kapaito attempt for a corner, and picking a knock for his troubles.
Tusker were back at it in the 22nd minute, Erambo picking a ball from the edge of the box, before hitting a curler from his left foot that demanded an equally excellent save from Ogenda.
Ian Simiyu had a chance to give Tusker the lead in the 30th minute when he found himself free in the box, but headed wide.
Simiyu also wasted another opportunity in the 38th minute when he took a low shot, but it went over once again, in what was the last chance of the half.
The second half equally negan on with a slow pace with only half chances created intil the 70th minute, when Kelvin Mwavali hit the cross bar with a header from a Jimmy Owili corner.
In the 84th minute, Dennis Cheruiyot missed a sitter when he found a free ball in the six yard box, but shot wide.
Fabian Adikiny was the recipient of the next chance in the 87th minute, but shot to the skies as the clock kept ticking.
The match-defining moment came in the 89th minute when David Omondi headed a cross to break the deadlock.

Mara almost doubled the scores in the 95th minute when Cheruiyot hit the crossbar from a Timothy Ndayala cross, with the match settling in a 1-0 win for Mara.
With the win, Mara have now secured three consecutive wins, and moved to eighth on the log with 40 points, a place and point below Tusker.
