Meanwhile in Kisii, APS Bomet fell to their second defeat after going down to Murang'a Seal

Shabana extended their one hundred percent start to the new FKF Premier League season after securing a 1-0 victory over Bandari in enemy territory at Mbaraki Sports Grounds on Sunday, 28 September.

Having been the influential force in Shabana’s 4-2 victory over APS Bomet last week, Harambee Stars midfielder Brian Michira turned on the style seven days later with the only strike of the game, which condemned the Dockers to their first defeat of the season.

Michira, who came to the match with two goals to his name, was the beneficiary of a darting run and cross from substitute Bronson Nsubuga, receiving the ball at the back post before rifling a 63rd minute shot past Allain Ngeleka at his near post.

The strike, which was celebrated with a well choreographed move by Shabana players on the sidelines, was one of the few clear-cut opportunities the visitors had carved in the second-half, but one that meant they were one of two sides with two wins from the opening two weeks of the new season.

Peter Okidi’s side, who recorded a big 3-1 victory the last time the two teams met, began the brighter ones under the noses of a passionate fanbase, and should have gone ahead inside 15 minutes, were it not for an imposing Ngeleka diving sideways to keep out a distant shot from Justine Omwando.

In hindsight, that was as close as any team got close to troubling the goal, as the attempt counted as the only shot on target in the first half.

In between the cagey stanza however, were near misses from both sides, as seen when Harambee Stars forward David Sakwa weaved his way inside the box in the 34th minute, only to squeeze his attempt narrowly wide.

An animated Ngeleka also had his moments of worry after gifting Austine Odongo a chance to stick a ball at the empty net, only for the youngster to hit his attempt wide.

An off-color Keith Imbali was scratching his head after missing a glaring chance in first-half added time, as was Bandari forward and former Shabana marksman Darius Msagha, who headed over from nearly identical distance early in the second half.

A bandaged John Makwatta exemplified Bandari’s fight in a more end-to-end second half, but saw his industry fail to bear fruit, as Shabana, riding off a robust defense and expert goalkeeping from Maxwell Mulili, held fort, and now look down on all clubs for a second consecutive week.

Bomet yet to find feet

Elsewhere at Gusii Stadium, APS Bomet’s troubles in the top division continued for yet another weekend after going down 2-0 to Murang’a Seal.

Bomet, who were handed a 4-2 humbling by Shabana in their maiden FKF Premier League match last weekend, trailed inside the first 15 minutes after Joel Masibo headed a long punt by Murang’a Seal over his keeper and into the net.

Michael Nam’s squad struggled to find a route back in the tie, and were punished further in second half added time when Lewis Wanjala snuck in from a corner to double the lead.

The win - a first for Murang’a Seal this season - meant newly-promoted Bomet stay rooted at the bottom of the table, and will need to muster some mettle to battle it out with the big boys.
