In a separate interview with Mozzart Sport, McKinstry revealed that he is still looking forward to bolstering his squad by making three additional signings, especially in the forward line.

Gor Mahia is on the "right track" to retaining the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) title they won last season, head coach Johnathan McKinstry has declared.

Yet, the Irishman still holds that there is still a lot of work for K'Ogalo to do ahead of their opening game against Sofapaka slated for Saturday 26th August 2023 at Kasarani Stadium.

The mood in his camp, the former Uganda Cranes coach, says is "determined" as they enter the final week of preparations.

"We enter the final week of the FKFPL preparations in a determined mood. Still plenty for Gor Mahia to do, but we are on the right track as we work to retain the FKFPL championship," the coach tweeted.

After a two-year drought, K'Ogalo won the league title for a record 20th title, wrestling it from perennial rivals Tusker, who had dominated over the period.

In a separate interview with Mozzart Sport, McKinstry revealed that he is still looking forward to bolstering his squad by making three additional signings, especially in the forward line.

"We have quality in the department, but we lack depth," he said.

K'Ogalo have Benson Omala and Ugandan Patrick Kaddu as the main men in attack.

So far, the team has roped in midfielders; Lawrence Juma who is making a return to the side from AS Kigali and Kevin Juma from Nzoia Sugar FC and goalkeeper Kevin Omondi formerly of Sofapaka.

On Saturday, the team gauged themselves against newly promoted side Murang'a Seal winning 1-0 courtesy of Lloyd Kavuchi goal.

Despite being locked out of featuring in the African Champions League, McKinstry says that the disappointment is now behind them.

"It was disappointing, but there's nothing we could do and the matter is now under the bridge. We're professionals, and our focus now is on doing well and retaining the league title."
