FKF Premier League giants Gor Mahia have revealed their gate collection from Sunday’s league match against Bidco United, held at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The record league champions hosted the Oilers in their season opener, which ended in a shocking loss as Newton Ochieng’s penalty in the final minute saw Bidco claim all points.

Despite the loss, Gor Mahia have disclosed the ticket sales figures, which were processed online.

The club collected a total of Kshs 985,700, with Kshs 899,700 being generated from regular tickets and Kshs 86,000 from VIP tickets, just falling short of the million-shilling mark.

We managed to collect Kshs 985,700 from our match against Bidco United at Kasarani Stadium. VIP tickets-Kshs 86,000; regular tickets-Kshs 899,700,” read part of a statement from the club treasurer, Gerphas Okuku.

He further urged fans to continue embracing online ticketing, promising improvements in gate management.

“We thank fans for their support and for embracing e-ticketing; we promise to improve gate management in future matches,” he added.

The match, however, was marred by a stadium break-in, as some fans, frustrated with the slow ticket scanning process, forced their way in by climbing over the fence.

The incident led to clashes with police, who fired teargas and used blank shots to control the crowd.

The situation has raised concerns within Sports Kenya, which, according to Mozzart Sport, is set to review the incident and may consider sanctions.

These could include banning Gor Mahia from using facilities managed by the organization, such as Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums.

Gor Mahia became the second team to publicly disclose gate collections after matchday one, following Shabana FC, who collected slightly over Kshs 1.5 million from their 4-2 win against APS Bomet at Gusii Stadium.
