Veteran midfielder Ernest Wendo and club captain Philemon Otieno are set to part ways with K'Ogalo after the final match of the season against Nairobi United.

This will bring down the curtain on careers that have been closely intertwined with one of the most successful periods in the club's recent history.

The duo has been among the pillars of Gor Mahia's dominance over the last decade, helping the club collect league titles, domestic cups, and memorable continental experiences.

While their influence on the pitch has gradually reduced in recent seasons, their presence within the dressing room has remained invaluable, particularly for the younger players who have formed the core of Charles Akonnor's squad this term.

Their departures come after both players were handed a lifeline in January 2025 when they came close to leaving the club.

Having seen out the remainder of their contracts, Gor Mahia have now opted against extending their stays, paving the way for an emotional farewell after Sunday's title celebrations.

For Wendo, the departure closes an extraordinary chapter that began in 2015. The hardworking midfielder has gone on to establish himself as one of the most decorated players in Kenyan football history, and, with Gor Mahia having already secured this season's title, he is set to finish his spell with eight FKF Premier League crowns.

That achievement sees him draw level with former Gor Mahia goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch as the player with the most league titles in the history of the Kenyan top flight, underlining the remarkable success he has enjoyed in green and white.

Otieno's story has been equally significant. The versatile defender joined Gor Mahia from the now-defunct Ushuru FC in 2017 and quickly became a key figure within the squad.

Over the years, he developed into one of the club's leaders before eventually taking over the captain's armband.

This season, he has combined his responsibilities on the pitch with an additional role as team manager, a position in which he has reportedly impressed club officials.

As he prepares to lift his seventh league title with K'Ogalo, indications are that he could remain involved with the club in an off-field capacity once his playing career comes to an end.

Both players have found opportunities harder to come by over the last two seasons as younger options emerged in their respective positions. Even so, their contribution to Gor Mahia's success cannot be measured solely by minutes played.

They leave behind a legacy built on consistency, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to the club's cause.

For a generation of Gor Mahia supporters, Wendo and Otieno have been ever-present figures through title-winning campaigns, continental adventures, and some of the most memorable moments in the club's modern history.
