In a statement issued late on Saturday, 6 December, the club urged supporters to purchase official merchandise only from authorized vendors.
The 21-time Kenyan champions expressed concern that unscrupulous traders were taking advantage of the derby hype to sell fake jerseys, a move the club says undermines both its brand and revenue streams.
“K’Ogalo appeals to all our supporters to buy genuine merchandise only. Do not support fraudsters who profit from the club’s name,” the statement read in part.
The warning comes as excitement peaks ahead of the 98th edition of the Mashemeji Derby, set for Sunday, 7 December, at Nyayo National Stadium, with kick-off confirmed for 3:00 pm.
The match venue was only settled after extensive consultations with Sports Kenya.
The derby had initially been slated for November 30 at Kasarani, but CAF regulations forced a change after the stadium was allocated to host the CAF Confederation Cup fixture between Nairobi United and AS Maniema Union.
With continental matches taking priority, FKF rescheduled the derby to November 29 at Nyayo Stadium, a plan that quickly fell apart.
Nyayo had already been booked by State House for World AIDS Day preparations beginning 28 November, rendering the venue unavailable.
Despite the logistical hiccups, anticipation remains high as Gor enters the derby among the league’s frontrunners with 19 points, while AFC Leopards sit seventh, five points behind.
Gor will be looking to extend their dominance in the fixture, while Ingwe seeks to overturn recent defeats and restate their credentials.
Both camps have promised a fierce contest, Gor head coach Charles Akonnor, despite a couple of injury concerns, urged calm from supporters, while AFC’s Fred Ambani remained optimistic, assuring fans of “beautiful football” on derby day.
