PSG defender will not play for the club in 2025. But what about the continental showpiece?
On Tuesday, PSG hosted Bayern Munich in the Champions League but the current European champions were well beaten and couldn’t overturn the 0-2 deficit even when the Bavarians were left with 10 men. The man of the match was certainly Luis Diaz. The former Liverpool forward not only scored a brace but also got the red card at the end of the first half after a horror tackle on Achraf Hakimi. And now, the supporters of the Africa’s best team are in shock and are hoping that their hero will be able to participate at the upcoming AFCON. So far, it looks that he will miss just the beginning of the tournament.
🚨📰 🇺🇸 The Athletic : “Achraf Hakimi will miss several weeks as he recovers from injury, but there’s optimism he could still be fit to represent Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations starting December 21.” 🇲🇦

Upon his painful gesture and tears, Morocco’s right back went for a treatment and scan was scheduled promptly. It was revealed today that, luckily, he didn’t suffer any fracture to his ankle. The internal ligaments of his left ankle are affected and it’s a severe sprain. That means that the recovery process will last from six to eight weeks. As for PSG, he is done for the year and won’t play for the Parisians in 2025. The race for fitness will start after that. It remains to be seen whether the Moroccan will recover in time for his major tournament.
The status of Hakimi in Morocco cannot be underestimated, as well as his importance to Regragui’s team. After all, the Moroccan football expert and journalist Nasredine Nasri summed it up for RMC Sport.
"We took it very hard. All of Morocco held its breath. When you see your captain, the idol of an entire country, in tears… We've never seen him cry. I still get goosebumps thinking about it; everyone was in shock. It's very difficult for us because we're hosting this AFCON and we want to win it, 50 years later. We can't afford not to have our captain" he said. The 2025 AFCON, hosted by Morocco, will begin on December 21 with the opening match between the host country and Comoros. The tournament will end on January 18, 2026, the date of the final.
