The announcement was made through Grimsby’s official social media platforms on Tuesday evening, confirming the acquisition of the versatile 26-year-old just hours before their high-profile Carabao Cup second-round tie against Premier League giants Manchester United.

“We are pleased to have Clarke Oduor on a season-long loan from Bradford City,” the club statement read, underscoring the importance of the Kenya international as the team seeks to strengthen its backline ahead of a demanding season.

Oduor’s football journey has been one of steady growth. Born in Nairobi, he moved to England at a young age and was recruited into Leeds United’s youth academy at just ten years old.

His professional debut for Leeds came in January 2019 when he featured for The Whites in an FA Cup clash against Queens Park Rangers (QPR).

Later that year, Oduor made a career-defining switch to Barnsley. In his four-year spell at Oakwell, he made 48 appearances and earned cult-hero status after scoring a last-gasp winner against Brentford on July 22 2020, a goal that dramatically preserved Barnsley’s Championship status.

In the 2022/23 season, he was sent out on loan to Hartlepool United, where he featured in 14 matches and netted once. His next chapter came at Bradford City, where he became a regular starter.

Over two campaigns, Oduor racked up 62 appearances, scoring five goals and registering five assists. His contributions played a key role in Bradford’s push for promotion to League One.

On the international stage, Oduor has represented Kenya once. He made his Harambee Stars debut in October 2020, coming off the bench in a friendly against Zambia, which Kenya won 2-1.

Now, with his loan move to Grimsby Town, Oduor faces another defining moment in his career. His arrival comes at a time when the Mariners prepare for one of their biggest matches in recent history, a showdown against Manchester United.

With Oduor signing hours before the clash, he might make his debut for the club against the Red Devils.
