The Senior Challenge Cup, initially set to feature a larger number of teams from the region as part of preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), was scrapped due to logistical constraints.
CECAFA has now organised a smaller, high-stakes tournament featuring four national teams: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Sudan.
The Four Nations Cup will act as a vital build-up event ahead of CHAN 2024, which kicks off on Saturday, 2 August, and will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Kenya will face hosts Tanzania on Thursday, 24 July, at 4:00 PM in their opening match, while Uganda takes on Sudan in the tournament’s curtain-raiser earlier that day at 1 PM.
The format is a straightforward one as winners of the two opening games will proceed to the final on Sunday, 27 July, while the losing sides will battle for third place earlier on the same day.
On Wednesday night, Football Kenya Federation unveiled the provisional Harambee Stars squad set to feature in the tournament. The squad includes players drawn from the FKF Premier League.
