The defender's late winner in a derby against Liverpool earned him the accolade, though it's not the first time he's been Man United's dying-minutes saviour

For the first time in the current Premier League campaign, a Man United player won the "Player of the Week" award. After as many as three Tottenham laureates (Richarlison, Joao Palhinha, Lucas Bergvall), two Liverpool members (Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch), and a Man City (Erling Haaland) and Chelsea (Moises Caicedo) player apiece, Harry Maguire put the Red Devils' name on the winners list.

The defender's late winner in a derby against Liverpool earned him 42% of the fan vote, as he came out ahead of the competition: Jean-Philippe Mateta (12%, Crystal Palace), Bukayo Saka (11%, Arsenal), Reece James (10%, Chelsea), Nordi Mukiele (7%, Sunderland), Pedro Neto (3%, Chelsea), and Junior Kroupi (1%, Bournemouth).

However, this is not the first time Maguire has come to the rescue in the dying minutes during the last year.

At the beginning of October 2024, he scored a 91st-minute leveller in the UEFA Europa League clash against Porto (3-3). Four months later, United beat Leicester in the FA Cup Round of 32 behind Maguire's 93rd-minute winner.

In last season's 27th EPL round, Ipswich Town felt "Clutch Harry's" scoring skills, as he bagged the winner - this time not a late one, but just two minutes after the break - for a 3-2 triumph.

During the Red Devils' quest to the UEL final, Maguire played a pivotal role, scoring a 121st-minute winner against Olympique Lyon, which directly helped United progress to the semi-finals.

Moving to the current campaign, the centre-back levelled in the EFL Cup first round against the fourth-tier side Grimsby Town, making it 2-2 in the 89th minute. Still, even he couldn't save the Old Trafford crew from embarrassment, as the Red Devils eventually fell short in the penalty shoot-out.

Finally, his latest "clutch goal" was probably the "sweetest" for United, as Maguire "killed" Liverpool three days ago, netting the 84th-minute winner with a tremendous header.

In the end, although his spell at the Theatre of Dreams had its ups and downs, his dying-minutes impact cannot be neglected. And once he leaves United, his errors will definitely have a vast impact on the fans' impression of his legacy, but they should never forget how many times Maguire came in clutch and was United's hero.
