Harry Maguire accepts an apology from the Ghanaian politician

Isaac Adongo used Harry Maguire's name to mock his political rival last year but now apologized

Harry Maguire is just so much more than a football player. Former Manchester United’s captain is a figure everybody talks about, but usually for the wrong reasons. If he is playing, he usually makes mistakes which are never good for a player whose price tag is 80 million pounds. If he doesn’t play, everybody is talking about it, and analyze why is he playing so bad and are contemplating his potential departure from Old Trafford. And since he regained his place in the Manchester starting line-up, even teamed up with 37-year old Jonny Evans (over Champions League winner Rapahel Varane), yes you guessed it’, he is the topic of the day again. Not only in England, but in Ghana too.

Last year, when Maguire was in the middle of his worst, mistake-prone performances, Ghana’s politician Isaac Adongo decided to gain additional world-wide PR by rubbing off of Maguire’s bad form by coining the phrase 'economic Maguire' in a speech to criticise policies of a rival in the Parliament. The speech in his country's national assembly included him saying Ghana's vice-president Mahamudu Bawumia enjoyed scoring - political - own goals in much the same manner as the Manchester United defender. And now, either he is genuinely a Red Devils fan or he just needs more PR, in any case, he decided it was time to mention him again.

If you remember last year I was very quick to compare vice-president Mahamudu Bawumia to Harry Maguire. Mr. Speaker I now apologise to Harry Maguire. Mr. Chairman, you got very angry when I used your defender as an example. Today Maguire has turned the corner, he's a transformational footballer. Harry Maguire is now scoring goals for Manchester United. Mr Speaker, Harry Maguire is now a key player for Manchester United, as for our Maguire, he is currently navigating the corridors of the IMF with a cup in hand. As for our Maguire, the economic Maguire, he was able to get pensioners to leave their homes and come and parade in the streets” said Adongo.

And this time, Maguire was there to read the Ghana’s politician statement and to find time to reply to Adongo.

'MP Issac Adongo apology accepted. See you at Old Trafford soon' Maguire posted on X, formerly Twitter.
