Oli McBurnie scored the winning goal in the 95th minute and the Tigers are back for the first time after 2017
He is not going to the World Cup but he is going to the Premier League! Oli McBurnie was not on the list of Scotland’s national team even thou he scored 19 goals throughout the season, but the Scott was the one to score the only game of the match, deep in overtime and brought Hull back to the Premier League! Middlesborough was the better team in terms of created chances and possession but none of those was important as only goals are counted in the end. Premier League should also be happy for Hull, as their owner Acun Ilicali has vowed to take legal action if the Tigers do not win the Championship play-off final against Middlesbrough. Now, when Hull won, there will be no lawsuit. Off course, Illicani was referring to the ‘spygate’ due to which Middlesborough went into the final due to Southampton’s disqualification, but it won’ matter now as his team is coming back to the Premier League for the first time since 2017.
Middlesbrough lost their fourth appearance in the second-tier play-off final and they continued their bad record of never winning at Wembley Stadium in five attempts. Their fans were thrilled a few days ago when Southampton was disqualified and they went into the final, but today they left the stadium devastated. Their team looked better during the game, but didn’t even manage a shot on target, and it’s not possible to enter to the strongest league in the UK with that kind of play. They lost "The Richest Game in Football", which is a popular nickname for the Championship final, The winner will get between 135 and 265 million pounds for entering the England’s highest league and the Tigers managed that today.

As expected, it was a very nervous start of the first half but it was Middlesborough who gain initiative and controlled the field. However, it was all for nothing as they didn’t create a proper chance in the first 45 minutes. They were all over Hull and always in the penalty area or around it, but never created a clear chance. Both teams had zero shots on target in the first half and it was Hull who actually had the best chance in the 44th minute. McBurnie won his battle with Malanda but his forceful header ended off the top of the crossbar. Second half started with a proper chance for Middlesborough. McGree’s sloppy defending allowed Whittaker to smash a half volley but was brilliantly denied by Egan. Just two minutes later Targett sent in a stunner of a corner and Boro managed to get Fry free around the back. It was a free header but the ball went over. Boro's best player Hayden Hackney, who hasn't played since March replaced Strelec, but it was not enough. And just as everyone thought that the game will go into overtime, Oli McBurnie was there to pick up the cross from the left, used Middleborough's keeper mistake and to put the ball into the net for the win.
