Pep Guardiola made an interesting claim while discussing the title ambitions among England’s three biggest competitors
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was asked at yesterday’s press conference to comment on the money spent by his club, as well as by rivals Arsenal and Liverpool.
Alongside Mikel Arteta, Pep Guardiola is one of the biggest spenders among Premier League managers, having invested over one bilion pounds during his ten years in England.
Of course, Pep has been winning trophies, while Arteta has yet to claim the Premier League, let alone a European title.
🚨 Pep Guardiola: “I want to say to my friend, Mikel Arteta, if he wins Premier League title… well it will jusr be because of spending, not because he worked a lot!”.

“Like Liverpool! If Arne Slot wins title again, it will be because he spent a lot of money this year, right?”.… pic.twitter.com/9udIeufpF4
Arne Slot had significantly more money at his disposal this summer than Liverpool has ever spent. They shelled out over 400 milion pounds but also earned nearly 300 milion pounds from sales.
“What I would say to my friend Mikel is that if he wins the Premier League, it’s ONLY because of the money, not because he worked a lot,” Pep said with irony, before adding:
“Same goes for Liverpool. If Arne wins the title again, it will only be because they spent a lot. Look, many, many clubs have been spending money for years, and that’s because they want to and can. I know how we were treated in previous years. What I can say is that they spent wisely, and they did it because they want to compete with the best in the Premier League and Europe,” he explained.
