Former Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona midfielder had a prolific career, but could have done much more if it wasn't for numerous severe injuries
Thiago Alcantara has retired from football following his departure from Liverpool, The Athletic confirmed on Sunday night.
The 33-year-old Spaniard of Brazilian descent spent the last four seasons at Liverpool before leaving as a free agent when his contract expired on June 30.
Thiago - the son of former Brazil international Mazinho and brother of Rafinha - began his career at Barcelona. He won ten trophies at Camp Nou, and was a key memeber of the league title-winning sides in the 2010-11 and 2012-13 seasons, while he also helped the club win the Champions League in 2011.
Watching Thiago Alcantara play football was like watching the sun rise. Like a symphonist dictating the rhythm of his ensemble. As elegant & majestic ball could look.

Thiago won the Bundesliga title in each of his seven seasons at Bayern, and helped the club win the Champions League in his final season (2019-20) with the club.
Unfortunately for Alcantara and the entire world of football, his career was ruined with several severe injuries which kept him off the pitch for quite some time.
In the last season of his career (2023-24), all he did was a five-minute substitute cameo in the 3-1 defeat at Arsenal in February.
