Odongo joined the club in February last year from Muhoroni Youth and with his suspension, he will miss the remainder of the season
Kakamega Homeboyz have suspended assistant coach Jeffers Odongo, Mozzart Sport can exclusively reveal.
According to the club’s team manager Boniface Imbenzi, Odongo saw red from the management due to ill-discipline although he didn’t divulge more.
Odongo was suspended following a lengthy meeting convened on Monday to deliberate on the club’s persistent poor run in the league.
The club has won twice in the last ten matches, across all competitions, a run that prompted the management to convene a meeting on Monday that, sought to give every member of the playing unit and technical bench a chance to air views and point out to reasons and contributors of the unwanted results.
‘We have suspended the assistant coach indefinitely due to indiscipline and communicated the decision to the players,” he told Mozzart Sport.
Imbenzi revealed that the meeting helped identify some of the reasons behind the poor run thanks to the feedback from the players.
A player who sought anonymity told Mozzart Sport that favoritism in picking the starting team was the major reason for their woes on the pitch.
“We discovered a lot of reasons for our poor run. Some were petty issues which we managed to solve while the rest are being worked on,” he added.
Odongo joined Homeboyz in February last year from Muhoroni Youth.
Until his suspension, he served as an assistant to Patrick Odhiambo, who made history last season after guiding the club to its first major title.
Meanwhile, Mozzart Sport can reveal that a handful of coaches have expressed interest in filling in the gap left by Odongo.
