Muguna, who currently turns out for Botswana Premier League side Sua Flamingoes FC, knows Abud better than most. The pair were teammates at Kenya Police FC and have also represented Harambee Stars together, giving the midfielder a close view of the defender's qualities on and off the pitch.
According to Muguna, Abud's achievements and consistency over the last three seasons set him apart from every other defender in the Kenyan top flight.
The experienced defender enjoyed arguably the best season of his career in the just-concluded campaign after successfully transitioning from his long-time role at left-back to central defence.
The switch proved a major success as he became one of Kenya Police's standout performers, helping the club reach the Mozzart Bet Cup final and finish third in the league.
The 33-year-old's outstanding displays earned him the runner-up award in the Defender of the Season category, while his impact throughout the campaign was further recognised at Kenya Police's end-of-season awards gala, where he scooped the club's Most Valuable Player (MVP), Defender of the Season and Goal of the Season accolades.
He also scooped the Best Defender in the 2026 Mozzart Bet Cup, where he coincidentally scored a sublime free kick in the 2-1 loss to Tusker FC.
His return to Tusker comes after an accomplished career that has taken him from Bandari and Tusker to Europe. In 2015, he became the first Kenyan footballer to play in Bulgaria's top flight after joining Slavia Sofia before enjoying spells in Greece, Belgium and Romania.
For Muguna, those accomplishments make Abud the benchmark for defenders in the FKF Premier League.
"Runner-up Defender of the Season in the just concluded campaign, highest-scoring defender in 2025, FKF Premier League winner with Kenya Police in 2024/25 and Mozzart Bet Cup winner in 2023/24.
In the last three years, there has been no defender in the Kenyan Premier League who has achieved or performed better than Abud," Muguna said.
Tusker will now be hoping Abud can replicate the form that made him one of the league's standout performers as they strengthen their squad for the new season.
His experience, versatility and winning mentality are expected to play a key role as the Brewers target a return to the summit of Kenyan football.
