Kenya U17 midfielder's promise to Kenyans ahead of Cameroon clash

The Junior Starlets will host the first leg against Cameroon on Friday, 18 April 2025, before traveling to Cameroon for the return leg on Friday, 25 April 2025.
Kenya U-17 Women's national team midfielder Lindey Weey Atieno has issued a promise to Kenyans ahead of the team's clash with Cameroon.
Kenya booked a date with Cameroon in the third and final playoff round, which precedes qualification for the World Cup, after a 5-0 aggregate thrashing of Uganda in the second round.
The Junior Starlets hosted Uganda on Sunday, 16 March, for the second leg of the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup qualifiers and won 3-0. This result added to Kenya's 2-0 win in Uganda a week earlier.
A first-half strike by Patience Asiko in the fifth minute gave Kenya the lead before substitute Brenda Achieng scored a brace in the second half, ensuring and confirming a comfortable win for the Starlets.
Atieno, speaking to FKF Media after the match, made a promise to the fans and the country at large.

“We are now focusing on the match against Cameroon. We know that it will not be easy, but we promise to do our best,” said Atieno.
The Sunflower Academy midfielder also appreciated the support that Kenyans showed the team during the Nyayo National Stadium clash.
“Thank you, Kenyans, for the support. We appreciate how you turned up in large numbers. We promised to give you three points, and we delivered,” she added.
The 14-year-old made headlines prior to Kenya's clash with Uganda after stating that the team was ready for anyone and everyone, regardless of their age or whether the match was played during the day or not.
“We are ready for the next match and the next tie. We are ready for any team that comes. We are confident of defeating whoever we face, no matter who they are. That is the mood in the camp,” said Atieno.
