Rennes drop out of the elite competition after a loss to Marseille. No European football for Monaco next season
Champions League dreams were fulfilled in Lille, heartbreak arrived in Rennes, while chaos, survival drama and even crowd trouble brought Ligue 1's season to a wild conclusion.
The biggest celebrations of the night belonged to Lille. Paulo Fonseca's side secured their return to the UEFA Champions League, although they largely have Lens to thank for it.
Lens completely dismantled Olympique Lyon with a ruthless 4-0 victory, leaving Lyon stuck in fourth place and forced into the Champions League qualifiers instead of an automatic return to Europe's elite competition. Had Lyon won, they would have leapfrogged Lille and secured a first Champions League appearance in six years.
No club, however, will feel the pain more than Rennes.
🚨 | Ligue 1's final day in short:

🔵 Lille through to Champions League group stage.
🔵 Lyon to play in 3rd qualifying round
🟠 Marseille qualified for Europa League group stage
🟢 Rennes through to Conference League play-off
⬇️ Nice to play Saint-Etienne in promotion play-off
Everything had opened up perfectly for Rennes. With both Lille and Lyon dropping points, all they needed was a victory over Olympique Marseille to storm into the Champions League places. Instead, they collapsed under pressure and suffered a heavy defeat of their own, settling only for a spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers.
For a club that has reached the Champions League only once in its history, it felt like a brutal missed opportunity - especially considering Marseille's turbulent season.
At one stage, Marseille looked destined to miss out on Europe entirely after a disastrous run of results and internal turmoil. Yet back-to-back wins in the final two rounds rescued OM and secured them a place in the UEFA Europa League. Given the chaos surrounding the club for much of the campaign, it ultimately feels like a respectable recovery.

Meanwhile, AS Monaco somehow managed to throw away a three-goal lead (from 1-4 to 5-4) against Strasbourg and slipped to a stunning defeat. But Monaco's European fate will now depend entirely on the Coupe de France final.
The Principality club finished seventh and desperately need Lens to beat OGC Nice in the final. If Lens lift the trophy, seventh place will be enough for Conference League qualification. If Nice win, they will head to the Europa League themselves, Rennes would inherit the Conference League spot - and Monaco would miss out on Europe completely.
There were celebrations in Auxerre too, as AJ Auxerre secured Ligue 1 survival with a surprise victory over Lille. OGC Nice, however, must now fight for survival through the relegation play-offs.
The drama did not end there. During Nantes' clash with Toulouse, furious Nantes supporters stormed the pitch in protest against club president Waldemar Kita following the team's relegation, forcing players to leave the field amid ugly scenes.

And finally, there was one more shock in Paris.
Fresh off winning the Ligue 1 and approaching the UEFA Champions League showdown, Paris Saint-Germain were beaten 2-1 by their neighbours, Paris FC, in a remarkable local derby decided by second-half goals from Gory.
The modest Parisian side, whose stadium sits just a short walk from Parc des Princes, achieved something no other club in Europe managed this season - beating PSG twice, having already done that in the domestic cup.
