The former Irish captain is better known for his time at Manchester United, where he won seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups and a UEFA Champions League and is also fondly remembered for his combative style of play during his glittering playing career.
After hanging up his boots on 12 June 2006, Keane embarked on a coaching career, launching his dugout journey by taking over as Sunderland manager in August 2006.
It was at Sunderland that he was joined by Cissé two years later, following a loan deal from Marseille. Despite working together for barely five months, Cisse has fond memories of Keane, as revealed in an exclusive interview with Mozzart Sport.
“I was surprised because I was expecting someone hot-headed, but he was a really cool guy. He was someone you could approach and talk football with because he also knows football,” said the former Liverpool forward.
Cissé, who was never far from controversy before his move to Sunderland, was pleased that Keane did not judge him before they could interact.
“I really liked him. He impressed me because he told me he had things about me, but he did not want to listen to them as he wanted to make his own opinion, and that is how I am also,” he added.
Keane stepped down as Sunderland boss in December 2008 following a torrid string of results, a matter that left Cissé devastated.
“I was sad when he left. People have experiences with people, and it might be different from mine, and that is why I liked him. I was focused on giving 100% for him. I was disappointed when he left. I really wanted to work for him,” he noted.
After retiring from football, Cissé has been building a career as a deejay as well as a producer under his alias Tcheba.
