Lyon ending the transfer window with a bang: Zaha arrives with his 7.500,000 euros salary

Lyon are ready to cap off a transfer window in which they spent over €140 million on transfer fees. Wilfried Zaha is on the verge of joining the French club on loan from Galatasaray.

According to sources familiar with the football market, Lyon will not pay a loan fee to the Turkish giants for the one-year deal, but they will have to cover the majority of the former Crystal Palace player's salary, which amounts to €7.5 million gross per year.

It is believed that the key role in this deal was played by Lyon's owner, John Textor, who met with the Ivorian player earlier this week and apparently convinced him that his club is the best place for Zaha in the upcoming season.

Wilfried Zaha left Crystal Palace last summer after eight consecutive years at the club where he originally came through the ranks, before having a brief stint at Manchester United and several loan spells. He joined Galatasaray as a free agent with a substantial salary but failed to live up to expectations. He scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 42 matches across all competitions, but it was believed he could have been even more impactful.

Although officially the 11th biggest spender in Europe during this transfer window, Lyon have once again started the season disappointingly, suffering easy defeats to Rennes (0-3) and Monaco (0-2). It seems clear that Pierre Sage needs Zaha to complete his squad.

Ryan Cherki, who was targeted by Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Betis, will definitely stay at the club, as no agreement was reached with Lyon.
