French international of Algerian descent was as candid as it gets in the interview with So Foot
It's not a common thing to read those elite footballers openly talking about their emotions and weaknesses.
Well, with Olympique Lyon's Rayan Cherki, it's a whole different story.
In the interview with So Foot, the 20-year-old attacking midfielder revealed his emotional side and the importance of his relationship with his mother.
"We don't realize that many players cannot sleep after matches," Cherki opened up before adding:
"At the end of every season, it's the same. I go home, sit with my mother and cry. Because all the pressure and emotional burden of the year had to go."
🇫🇷🗣️ Rayan Cherki: "Current football freaks me out. When you see the Super League or VAR... I didn't grow up with that."

"Me, I really liked football with offsides not called, with errors and moments of madness."

The transition from youth to the pros has been challenging for Cherki, who was on Chelsea's radar.
"If you go from that carefree world to the world of professionals, you really get a slap in the face. And you can't prepare for that."
To relieve himself of that pressure, the attacking midfielder writes down everything he experiences in a notebook.
"I also play music. I'm sitting here in my chair, which no one else is allowed to sit in. I take my ink, my pens and I write in peace. It relaxes me."
Cherki also had his say about VAR, which he is absolutely not a fan of.
"Current football drives me crazy. When you see the Super League or VAR... I didn't grow up with that. I really liked football with offsides that were not seen, with mistakes and moments of madness," concluded this sincere man.
