In one of the early upsets of the 2026 Mozzart Bet Cup, BB Bread stunned ten-time champions AFC Leopards, advancing to the Round of 32 following a dramatic 4-3 victory on post-match penalties.
The spotlight firmly shone on former Leopard's goalkeeper Ezekiel Owade, who denied Kennedy Owino from the spot to seal a historic win for the Nairobi East Division side.

AFC Leopards, with ambitions of ending a seven-year cup drought and chasing a domestic double, went into the clash expecting nothing less than victory.
BB Bread, conversely, approached the tie with freedom, intent on causing an upset,and they delivered emphatically.
The match opened at a frenetic pace, with both sides seeking early dominance. Surprisingly, BB Bread struck first.
A well-placed ball from Charles Munala forced Leopards’ defender Frederick Alushula into an own goal, giving the underdogs an immediate lead.
AFC Leopards responded swiftly.
Kenya U-20 forward Hassan Beja latched onto Victor Omune’s pass but fired wide, missing an early opportunity to restore parity.
BB Bread continued to threaten through Samuel Oluoch, whose goal-bound attempt was expertly cleared by Owino.
The ten-time champions upped the tempo and came close through Christopher Koloti, whose chip over Owade was skillfully blocked by the former Leopards custodian.
BB Bread doubled their advantage six minutes before halftime when Moses Nyuol rose highest to meet a corner from Reagana Chavulimu, sending the ball powerfully into the net past Emmanuel Kusindi
Leopards, reeling from the setback, mounted a series of attacks.
Owino and Koloti came close with headers and volleys, while Joseph Tindo almost extended BB Bread’s lead on a counter.
Despite the flurry, the first half ended with BB Bread holding a surprising 2-0 advantage.
The second half saw AFC Leopards determined to overturn the deficit.
James Kinyanjui threatened with a fierce effort, only for Owade to block.
Koloti’s volley also went wide, as Leopards struggled to break down a disciplined BB Bread defense.
Persistence eventually paid off for the former champions.
Fifteen minutes from time, Owino capitalized on a blocked free-kick from Samuel Semo, lofting the ball past Owade to make it 2-1.
Five minutes later, Kinyanjui latched onto a long ball and fired a powerful shot to level the scores at 2-2, setting the stage for a tense penalty shootout.
In the spot-kicks, BB Bread’s composure shone brightest.
While both sides traded successes and misses, Owade’s save against Owino proved decisive.
Tindo calmly converted the fifth and final penalty, while Semo’s effort struck the woodwork, confirming BB Bread’s shock elimination of the Kenyan giants.
The result sees BB Bread advance to the round of 32 in their maiden Mozzart Bet Cup appearance, leaving AFC Leopards to extend their domestic cup woes for yet another year dashing hopes for a domestic cup double.
