Simba wa Nairobi roared 3-2 over Leopards to bag maximum points for the third win in the campaign
Nairobi City Stars centre-back Timothy Muganda is delighted to have marked his return to the team after seven matches out with an important win over AFC Leopards.
City Stars beat Leopards 3-2 last weekend at the Kasarani Stadium to register their third win of the campaign.
Muganda had last featured for the club in their 4-1 thrashing in the hands of Gor Mahia prior to last weekend’s duel.
After 48 days out, the defender was tasked with leading the team and he didn’t disappoint as City Stars beat the struggling Leopards to scale to a safer rank.
Despite being out for a while and his age, Muganda said donning the armband which comes along with responsibilities didn’t scare him and neither was he nervous.
The burly defender said his past experience at Soy United where he served as the skipper came in handy.
“Wearing the armband against AFC Leopards came with absolutely no pressure. I was easy with it. Remember previously I was at Soy United where I was the regular captain. I got used to the responsibilities that come with captaincy,” he said in an interview with club media.
Coach Nicholas Muyoti revealed that it wasn’t a tough decision to have the armband rest on Muganda’s hand as he had demonstrated abilities to anchor the defence.
“We needed command at the back and thought giving him the armband would inspire him. We hope that it motivated him in that game and that it will do the same in the games to come,” said Muyoti
On the game itself, Muganda was excited with the triumph that ended a two-game losing streak.
“It was a very important win considering we had had a patch recently. We had a good game approach that worked for us that delivered the win though we had to endure a nervy ending,”
“The win gives us confidence and we can now go to the next set of games on a high,” he added
After matchday three against Gor Mahia in mid-September, Muganda went on to miss the next five games but returned for the Muranga Seal tie on 1 November as a substitute.
He completed the Leopards match in what was only his 15th Football Kenya Federation Premier League appearance.
