The Murang’a-based side got back to winning ways after securing a 1-0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz in an FKF Premier League match played on Sunday, 10 May at the St. Sebastian Park.

A first-half goal by Joe Waithira saw the former Sofapaka FC midfielder not only end his goal drought but also bring to a close an eight-match run without victory for his team, seven of which were in the league.

Further, it also marked the maiden win for interim coach Dennis Odhiambo, who is in his first stint in charge of a Premier League team, a victory he attributed to a gesture by club Chairman Robert Macharia.

“It is a win that we have worked on for a long time, and I dedicate it to my players. We did not take a rest after the loss to Police.

I am also grateful to the chairman for agreeing to our request to stay in camp ahead of the game,” said Odhiambo.

The former Harambee Stars midfielder also opened up on the mental aspect of preparing the team during the torrid run.

“It has not been easy. It was all about confidence, which had really gone down, and we really worked on it and showed the boys that they can win,” he added.

In the end, Odhiambo also had to make tactical changes and adjustments to ensure Seal bag the win.

“We knew Homeboyz are a good, physical team and would pump long balls, and we worked hard throughout the week to counter that, and I am glad it worked.

Many teams know that we play from the back going forward, and so I told my boys that sometimes it is not about beautiful football, especially at this period of the season.

It is about game management and scoring, and I am happy that we took about three touches to score,” he remarked.
