The head coach has praised the character his team has shown in the build up tournament for the new campaign.

Nairobi City Stars head coach Nicholas Muyoti has revealed that he will be a delighted man irrespective of the results his side post in their finale of the Elite PreSeason Cup where they are set to face Kenya Police on Saturday afternoon at Nyayo Stadium.

The Kawangware based side booked their place in the championship decider after goalkeeper Steve Njunge saved three penalties against a resurgent Kariobangi Sharks to ensure they stayed in contention for the one million cash prize on offer by the tournament organizers.

Ahead of the game, Muyoti, who is gearing for a second season in charge of the team, noted that he had already been impressed by what he had seen from his new look team after they dropped upto thirteen of their experienced players and replaced them with a large chunk of untried and untested players from the lower leagues.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, the head coach noted that the preseason tourney had already furnished him with a lot of knowledge he needed to gather in time for when the 2022/2023 Football Kenya Federation Premier League will start.

“It is a tournament that we have been using to learn and to know our players better. So far, it has been a good build up for us and in fact I have seen what I wanted to see from the new players coming in to join the rest of the team.

A tournament like this has given us a very good picture of them, their character on the pitch and also how we can use different combinations that will help in making the starting eleven. Basically, it has been a good learning ground for me which is very important ahead of the season more than the one million prize money.

I have already been impressed and the finale will just serve as yet another opportunity to learn,” the head coach stated.

On Saturday, City Stars will renew their rivalry with Police who they drew with 1-1 in the group stages of the competition.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 1500EAT.
