Reading Time: 3min | Wed. 27.05.26. | 21:35

Fortune Sacco are officially out of the race for automatic promotion after losing 4-0

Migori Youth tightened their grip at the top of the National Super League (NSL) table after battling from behind to defeat Mully Children Family (MCF) 2-1 in a pulsating clash at Awendo Green Stadium.

MCF stunned the home side after taking the lead in the 19th minute, silencing the Migori faithful with an early breakthrough.

However, Migori gradually regained composure and drew level before the break through Mike Isabwa, who calmly converted from the penalty spot to ensure the two sides headed into halftime tied at 1-1.

Upon resumption, Migori returned with renewed intensity and completed the turnaround almost immediately.

Syphas Otieno struck four minutes into the second half ending month-long goal drought to hand the league leaders a crucial victory.

The result saw Migori extend their lead at the summit to 74 points, opening a two-point gap over second-placed Mombasa United with only three matches left to play.

The defeat for MCF dealt a major blow to their survival hopes.

The Francis Chege-coached side now faces the grim reality of possible relegation as the battle to avoid the drop intensifies.

At Mbaraki Sports Club, Mombasa United were forced to settle for a goalless draw against 3K FC in a tightly contested encounter.

The stalemate proved costly for Mombasa United, who dropped vital points in the title race and now sit second on 72 points, two behind leaders Migori Youth.

For 3K FC, the draw marked another frustrating setback in their promotion quest.

Nicodemus Omasete’s charges have now managed just two points from their last two matches, slipping to third place on 70 points, two behind Mombasa United and four adrift of Migori.

With only three rounds remaining, 3K’s hopes of automatic promotion now hang in the balance, leaving the Embu-based side with little room for error heading into the decisive final stretch of the campaign.

Elsewhere at Wang’uru Stadium, Fortune Sacco suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of visiting Equity FC.

The Bankers will now hope to maintain momentum and secure maximum points from their remaining fixtures to keep their top-flight dream alive.

The heavy defeat effectively ended Fortune Sacco promotion aspirations.

At Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, Vihiga United boosted their survival chances after edging Gucha Stars 1-0.

The narrow victory marked a timely return to winning ways for Gilbert Selebwa’s men, who moved to 29 points and are now just two points away from escaping the relegation zone.

Despite being relatively safe from the drop, Gucha Stars continued to struggle for consistency.

The defeat came only days after their encouraging 2-1 victory over Luanda Villa, highlighting the side’s unpredictable run of form.

Meanwhile, at Dandora Stadium, FC Talanta continued their resurgence with a convincing 2-0 victory over Nzoia Sugar.

Goals from Brian Maingi and Evans Malo guided the 2021 National Super League champions to another important win as Jackson Gatheru’s side climbed to 54 points, further cementing their quest for top five finish.

For Nzoia Sugar, the defeat extended their winless run to six matches, deepening concerns over the team’s poor finish to the season as they head into the final three fixtures still searching for their first victory in over a month.

In the day’s other fixture, Kibera Black Stars and Nairobi City Stars played out a barren draw at Gems Cambridge Grounds in a match that offered little goalmouth action.
