Villa are in their maiden season in the second tier having gained automatic promotion last year
National Super League side Luanda Villa has revamped its technical bench and subsequently appointed former AFC Leopards coach Gilbert Selebwa.
The latest development marks the return of the experienced tactician to the second tier after close to five years.
It also marks the demotion of Tom Tera, who held the pole coaching job at Luanda, to the rank of assistant as the trainer has been handed a lighter task of deputizing Selebwa.
Tera guided the team to punch an automatic promotion ticket last year and has overseen 32 league matches so far in the ongoing campaign.
Given the results Luanda have achieved so far in the season, the club wasn’t expected to ring changes in the technical bench.
However, it appears that the management is laying the ground for more-promotion to the top tier to be precise
"After a thorough search and evaluation, we have appointed Gilbert Selebwa, the former coach of AFC Leopards, as our new club manager. Selebwa brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in football management. We are confident that his expertise will propel Luanda Villa to new heights,” read a statement from the club.
The arrival of Selebwa will give room to Tera to pursue his CAF B coaching license as well.
Coaches bearing the ambition of manning the touchline in the top and second tiers will have to be holders of the highest CAF coaching badges as per the regulations.
“Tera, our former manager will now assume the role of assistant manager. This transition allows him to undertake his CAF B training while continuing to contribute to the team’s success,” added the statement.
Selebwa is not the sole new face in the Villa technical bench as he is joined by former Kenyan international Francis ‘Killer’ Oduor.
The former left-back, who at some point coached Kisumu All Stars, will serve as the club’s trainer.
“We are pleased to welcome Francis Oduor to our coaching staff as the team’s trainer. Oduor’s extensive knowledge and experience in player development and fitness will be invaluable in enhancing our team's performance in the field,” added the club.
Selebwa is a former Shabana coach.
