3K FC entered the automatic promotion bracket following their 2-1 win over Fortune Sacco in the Majirani Derby

Migori Youth extended their stay at the top of the National Super League standings after edging out Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) 1-0 in a fiercely contested South Nyanza derby at Awendo Green Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The highly-charged encounter lived up to expectations, with both sides engaging in an entertaining end-to-end battle for long spells of the match.

Despite the intensity and numerous attacking moves from either side, neither team managed to break the deadlock in the opening half as the two rivals headed into the break level.

Migori returned from the interval with renewed energy and purpose, taking control of proceedings in front of their home supporters.

Their persistence eventually paid off at the hour mark when a dangerous corner delivery from Geoffrey Odira forced a MOFA defender into conceding an own goal.

That strike ultimately proved enough to separate the two sides as Migori held firm in the closing stages to secure maximum points and local bragging rights in one of the most anticipated derbies in the region.

The victory significantly boosted Migori’s title and promotion ambitions, with the league leaders opening up a three-point cushion at the summit on 68 points.

With the season entering its decisive stages, the win could prove crucial in their push for top-flight football.

For MOFA, however, the defeat dealt another major blow to their promotion hopes.

The loss marked back-to-back setbacks for the Michael Olunga-owned side, who continue to lose ground in the race for promotion.

They now sit sixth on 57 points, eight points adrift of the promotion places.

Elsewhere, TC Talanta produced one of the standout performances of the day after stunning promotion-chasing Mombasa United 3-0 in a one-sided clash staged at Dandora Stadium.

Cyprian Mang'eni, Evans Malo and Peter Abiola were all on target for Jackson Gatheru’s men.

The emphatic victory saw Talanta climb to ninth place on 45 points while also avenging their 2-1 first-leg defeat in style.

The result further boosted their hopes of securing a top-five finish before the end of the campaign.

On Mombasa's side, the defeat marked coach Peter Okidi’s first loss since taking charge of the club.

More importantly, the setback saw the coastal side drop valuable points in the promotion battle.

Mombasa now trails leaders Migori by three points and slipped to third place on 65 points, level with 3K FC and only two points above the cut-off line for promotion.

At Kenyatta Stadium, Kisumu All Stars and Kabati Youth played out a 1-1 draw in a tense relegation six-pointer that left both sides frustrated.

The result did little to aid either team’s survival ambitions as both dropped crucial points at a critical stage of the season.

Kisumu remained on 31 points, while Kabati Youth continue to hover dangerously above the relegation zone, sitting just one point above the drop.

Meanwhile, at Wundanyi Stadium, hosts Mwatate United were held to a 1-1 draw by Kibera Black Stars in another result that carried major implications at both ends of the table.

The draw left Mwatate’s survival hopes hanging by a thread as they remained third from the bottom of the standings.

The coastal side now faces a daunting task and may need to win all their remaining fixtures to avoid relegation.

For Kibera Black Stars, coached by Iddi Badi, the stalemate further dented their hopes of mounting a late promotion push.
