At Mbaraki Sports Complex, Mombasa United maintained their perfect start to the season by beating Fortune Sacco 2–1 to register their first home win and second successive victory of the campaign

Nairobi City Stars recorded their first victory of the National Super League (NSL) season after edging Luanda Villa 1–0 in a league match at Vapor Grounds in Ngong on Sunday, 5 October

Former FC Talanta forward Joshua Amunike scored the lone goal of the evening to hand the club their first home win on their return to the second tier.

City Stars were relegated from the FKF Premier League last season and had lost their opening NSL fixture 1–0 to Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) in Homa Bay.

Under coach Salim Babu, the Kawangware-based side bounced back impressively against a Villa team whose start to the season has disappointed their supporters.

Luanda Villa had surrendered a one-goal lead to draw with newcomers Equity Bank FC in their opener and remain winless after two games.

City Stars’ win moves them up to sixth place on three points, while Villa sit 13th with a single point.

Mombasa United 2–1 Fortune Sacco

At Mbaraki Sports Complex, Mombasa United maintained their perfect start to the season by beating Fortune Sacco 2–1 to register their first home win and second successive victory of the campaign.

Emmanuel Gabriel put the hosts ahead in the 15th minute with a low drive from 20 yards that beat Fortune goalkeeper Manaseh Opunde.

The visitors levelled on the stroke of half-time when United defender Felix Ochieng inadvertently headed into his own net while clearing a corner.

United regained the lead in the 65th minute after Nehemiah Onchiri converted a penalty, making amends for missing a clear chance earlier.

The spot kick came after Opunde had fouled striker Fidel Omondi inside the area.

Despite late pressure from Sacco, United’s defence held firm to secure all three points.

Mombasa United, coached by Gilbert Selebwa, have now won both of their opening games, having defeated Mully Children’s Family (MCF) on the road in their first match.

Fortune, led by coach Shem Ondieki, have suffered back-to-back defeats to start their campaign.

Selebwa praised his team’s resilience noting; “We just took our chances. Fortune dominated for long periods, but I am happy we are developing a winning mentality. There is still work to do, especially in attack, but this result is encouraging.”

Ondieki rued costly errors but remained optimistic:

We made some mistakes and got punished, but the season is still young. I am confident we will bounce back,” said the former FC Talanta team manager.

Vihiga United 0–1 MOFA

Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) continued their strong start to the season with a 1–0 away victory over Vihiga United at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo on Sunday afternoon.

Laban Otieno was the hero once again, scoring just two minutes into the match by heading in Reagan Ochieng’s well-delivered free kick.

The forward, fondly known as “Labo”, now has two goals in as many games.

Otieno remained a constant threat throughout the contest and came close to doubling the lead after the break.

John “Ake” Okumu impressed in his first start of the season, controlling midfield with composure and energy.

New signing Bakari Temo also made his debut, adding pace in attack as MOFA saw out the match confidently.

Head coach Charles Bruno lauded his team’s discipline, “We knew our opponents would rely on long balls, and we had a plan to deal with that. The boys stuck to it and showed real character.”

MOFA remain unbeaten against Vihiga United in three meetings, two wins and a draw, and top the table with six points from two matches.

In other matches, 3K FC beat Darajani Gogo 1–0 at Moi Stadium in Embu with Eugene Ateya scoring the lone goal.

Migori Youth edged FC Talanta 1–0 in Dandora courtesy of a strike from Sylphas Otieno, while Kibera Black Stars registered a 1–0 win over Kisumu All Stars in Kisumu thanks to Jephiter Bundi’s effort.
