NSL: Top of table clash dominates weekend action

On Friday, Darajani Gogo ended Luanda Villa's unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 win at the Police Sacco Stadium

Round Thirteen of the National Super League is what you want to see.

The top four sides in the division will on Saturday size each other up - potentially painting a picture of who to expect to win promotion next year - while a battle at the bottom between two sides fighting to avoid early relegation talk will ensue.

Mathare United vs Naivas FC

Straight off the bat, this will be the game of the weekend.

Number one meets number two, with the Slum Boys holding just a three point advantage over Naivas, who at their back-pocket have a valuable game in hand.

Bar a draw at the Ruaraka Grounds this afternoon, either side will see their unbeaten runs come to a halt.

Both teams last tasted defeat in October - their only loss this season.

Mathare United’s last home fixture this year should be a good one.

Mara Sugar vs Kisumu All Stars

Position three versus position four.

Last weekend’s results for both teams gave a different look; the importance of All Stars doing away with a run of two losses on the bounce, and a Mara Sugar barren draw with Rainbow that somewhat kept them behind in the chase for promotion.

To their credit, both sides remain in the mix, and that should be their agenda when they meet up at the Awendo Green Stadium in Awendo.

MCF FC vs Rainbow

Purists have it that MCF head coach Vincent Nyaberi is doing the most at his new stop - lifting the club off the relegation zone - and hopes to rally his squad to start getting wins at their home perch.

Could be opportune timing for him against Rainbow FC, who are winless in their last five, with the agenda being building from last weekend’s 3-2 victory over Gusii FC.

One goal separates the two, tightly walking on the relegation thread this season.

In the other matches on Saturday, Nairobi United will seek to extend their winning run to three games when they visit Mombasa Stars - off a 4-0 hammering by Luanda Villa - at the Mbaraki Sports Club from 1500 EAT.

Eleventh placed SS Assad will on the other hand host Silibwet FC, keen to show that last weekend’s 2-1 win over Migori Youth wasn’t an anomaly, at Ukunda Show Ground from 1500 EAT.
