The coastal side continued their impressive run on Monday afternoon, coming from behind to edge Darajani Gogo 2-1 at Mbaraki Sports Club.
Darajani Gogo drew first blood in the 20th minute through Edward Adem, whose strike gave them a 1-0 lead that they carried into the break.
However, Mombasa United returned for the second half with renewed energy and intent.
Juma Mwajao and Neville Etabale each found the back of the net to secure maximum points for coach Gilbert Selebwa’s side.
The victory lifted Mombasa to 16 points, level with Migori Youth, who lead the standings on goal difference.
The win also extended Selebwa’s unbeaten run to three matches since losing to 3K FC in Embu two weeks ago.
The match was not without drama as both teams finished with ten men after Hakim Ingosi of Mombasa United and a Darajani Gogo player were sent off, the latter just before halftime.
For Gogo, it was their second defeat of the season, leaving them in 11th place on seven points from five matches.
Speaking after the match, Darajani Gogo fitness trainer Kelly Ogutu lamented what he described as poor officiating but commended his players for their fighting spirit.
“The kind of officiating we got today was not the best, but that’s football. When you are away, you sometimes get such decisions. I believe the boys will bounce back against Mwatate over the weekend,” he said.
Ogutu expressed pride in his squad’s resilience despite playing the entire second half with ten men.
“It was a good game, we played according to our plan. We trained really well last week, and the boys executed what we worked on.
Unfortunately, the red card before halftime changed the rhythm of the game, but the players showed great resilience,” he added.

Despite the loss, Ogutu remains optimistic about the team’s progress and potential.
“We were a bit unlucky because we missed so many chances, but that’s football. We’ll work on that in training. This is a young, talented, and skilful squad, and the future is very bright,” he concluded.
