The centre back has been battling recurring injuries for a while
Kakamega Homeboyz centre back Portipher Odhiambo is praying that injuries will give him a break this season as he aims to enjoy uninterrupted playing time.
Odhiambo arrived in the top flight two years ago on the back of being the Most Valuable Player in the National Super League, but he hasn't lived up to the hype due to recurring injuries.
His progression and hunger for game time has often been interrupted by injuries as well as being played out of position.
Last season, Odhiambo had to contend with being used as a defensive midfielder and was, at some point, deployed on the right side of the defense.
However, the defender is on his knees, praying to build on what has been a smooth start thus far and achieve his career dreams.
Out of the five Football Kenya Federation Premier League matches played so far, Odhiambo has played five, partnering Brian Eshihanda at the heart of the defence.
"My progression has been hampered by recurring injuries. I have been one of the unluckiest players with injuries. I am praying that I will have a smooth season and play as many games as possible. I want to compete as much as i can and help the team achieve the set targets," he said.
Odhiambo joined Homeboyz from Vihiga Bullets, who were promoted in 2021 alongside FC Talanta.
Bullets were demoted last season after finishing at the bottom of the log, ending their two-year-long stay in the top flight.
The club was relegated alongside Mathare United, with Muhoroni Youth surviving after beating Migori Youth in the promotion/relegation playoff.
