Omollo dominates final round to storm to victory at Nakuru Golf Club

Vet Lab Sports Club’s Ebill Omollo staged a remarkable final-round comeback at Nakuru Golf Club on Sunday, 31 May, to be crowned champion of the NCBA Coronation & Bendor Trophy.

Heading into the final round trailing overnight leaders William Odek and Eugene Wafula, Omollo produced a brilliant level-par 72, the best score of the tournament, to overturn the deficit and claim victory in the 54-hole competition.

After rounds of 78 and 76 in the opening two days, Omollo saved his best for last to finish on a total of seven-over-par 226 and lift the title.

Odek mounted a strong challenge but had to settle for second place on nine-over-par 228, while Muthaiga Golf Club’s Eugene Wafula finished third on 10-over-par 229.

The battle for the top positions remained intense until the final hole, with three golfers sharing fourth place.

Felix Dusabe and Josphat Rono, both from Golf Park Golf Club, alongside Kamoza Longwe of Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club, all finished on 11-over-par 230.

Elsewhere, six golfers secured qualification for the prestigious NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale after impressive performances at the Moi Airbase Golf Club Mug held on Saturday, 30 May.

The qualifiers will join top performers from across the country at the Grand Finale, which is scheduled for November 28, 2026, at Karen Country Club.

In Division One, Dr. Ayub Shitsewa emerged as the men's winner after returning a score of 68 nett off a handicap of 9, while Christine Kamais claimed the ladies' title with 69 nett, also playing off a handicap of 9.

Division Two saw Phillip Oduma triumph in the men's category with an impressive 65 nett off a handicap of 24.

Joy Nyagi secured the ladies' slot after carding 72 nett off a handicap of 25.

Livingstone Odero topped Division Three and booked his place in the Grand Finale with an outstanding 60 nett off a handicap of 34.

Junior golfer Kristopher Mwangi also qualified after posting an excellent 61 nett off a handicap of 41.

The tournament attracted 83 golfers, with Roselyne Kiriswa claiming the Guest Winner prize after returning a score of 63 nett off a handicap of 50.

Attention now shifts to the next qualifiers on the NCBA Golf Series calendar, with a regional double-header scheduled for June 13 at Kakamega Golf Club and Uganda Golf Club.
