Onyango, Shikalo set to clash in Kariakoo Derby

Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 08.05.21. | 13:42

Simba will be hoping to extend their four point lead as they aim to clinch yet another title

Two Kenyan internationals plying their trade in neighbouring Tanzania will get the chance to once again feature in one of the fiercest rivals in the continent when Simba SC entertain Yanga later on Saturday in a top of the table league match.

In the 105 times that the two teams have faced off, it is Yanga, commonly known as Timu ya Wananchi, who boast of having dominated with 37 wins compared to Wekundu wa Msimbazi’s 31 victories.

Currently, it is Simba’s duo of Joash Onyango and Francis Kahata who will be out to extend their four-point advantage over Faruk Shikalo’s Yanga in the match that will be played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium. Kahata however will not feature in the match as he was not registered for league clashes.

On the other hand, Yanga can reduce Simba’s lead to only one point in a title race that will most likely go down to the wire with less than ten games to play.

In the last league game between the two sides, Onyango earned Simba one point when he scored the equalizing goal in the 86th minute to spare Simba’s blushes in the derby.

This time round, during the game, Tanzania Football Federation revealed that the players will be allowed to shortly observe the regulations of the ongoing Ramadan. The evening prayer will be conducted at 6:34 pm when the match will be ongoing.

Simba are on an imperious five-match winning streak and will be hoping to get a sixth over their rivals. Yanga on the other hand lost their last game against Azam and do not need any further motivation going into the clash against the log leaders.

The match kicks off at 1900EAT.
