Former Harambee Starlets head coach David Ouma has disclosed that the reason behind his decision to join Coastal Union in the NBC Tanzania Premier League was motivated by the club's project being in line with his philosophy.
Ouma joined the Tanga-based side last week on Thursday, replacing Fikiri Elias, who was relieved of his duties due to a string of poor results.
Prior to his move to Tanzania, the outspoken tactician had taken a sabbatical leave, but he says Coastal Union's project aligned with his philosophy and ideologies, and that acted as a major catalyst for him to make a U-turn back to the touchline barely two months out of active football.
Ouma equally revealed that he had several offers both locally and across the borders in Tanzania, Ethiopia, Somalia, and South Africa.
"I had various offers from clubs back at home and a number of others from Tanzania, Somalia, Ethiopia, and South Africa. However, I opted to settle for Coastal Union because their project was convincing and perfectly went hand in hand with my ideologies. I was impressed with their objectives, and this convinced me to come out of my break from football," stated Ouma.
The former Sofapaka gaffer, who will be taking his coaching career across borders for the first time, has expressed his readiness ahead of his stay in Tanzania.
"I am delighted to take my career a step notch higher, and I am really looking forward to a successful stint in Tanzania. The league is very competitive, and this was one of the other aspects that made me make the move. I honestly expect tough competition, but I am very optimistic about doing the job that has been bestowed on me," he added.
The former Harambee Stars assistant coach under Bobby Williamson's era will be tasked with propelling the "Wagosi wa Kaya," as they are commonly known, to a respectable position at the end of the season. Ouma believes he has what it takes to attain the club's targets for the season.
"I have accessed the squad in the training that I have conducted, and I am very confident we are able to compete despite the poor start, he concluded.
Coastal Union is currently above the red zone on goal difference, and they are tied at eight points each with Tanzania Prisons, whom they next face after the FIFA international break.
