This was Owino's second goal of the season after scoring against FC Talanta.

KCB FC wingback David ‘Messi’ Owino bagged the match-winner in the 1-0 victory over Nairobi City Stars and revealed that he had a strong conviction that he would score in the game.

Messi was a late substitute in the game and did not take long on the pitch before he struck an 87th-minute free-kick from the right channel that went all the way in.

The former Mathare United wingback opened up on what head coach Zedekiah Zico Otieno told him adding that he had a feeling he would score.

“The coach told me I have a goal in this match and having to play against such teams and coming from the same area I can say that I know them well.

When he told me that I have a goal in this match I had told myself that I will score so it was as simple as that,” said Owino.

The win took KCB momentarily to the top of the standings and extended their unbeaten run to nine games this season after a shaky start to the campaign.

The Bankers had struggled to break a well-drilled defensive set up by City Stars who aimed to soak up the pressure and hit on the counter.

This was Messi’s second goal of the season after scoring in the 1-1 draw against Talanta earlier on in the season but has witnessed limited game time after the arrival of James Mazembe from Kariobangi Sharks.
