He was appointed in December last year just before the club started their league campaign.

Mathare United have parted ways with coach Boniface Omondi on mutual consent barely two months into his appointment, the club has confirmed.

Goalkeeping coach Samuel Kioko will take charge on an interim basis as the club's management embarks on finding a suitable replacement at the helm of the technical bench.

The Slum Boys have had a rough start to the campaign, collecting only four points from a possible 30 in their opening 10 rounds, winning once and drawing once in that time.

The 5-0 defeat to Kenya Police on Wednesday at the Kasarani Stadium perhaps was the last nail for Omondi who had seen his team concede five goals for the consecutive game having gone down 5-1 to Kakamega Homeboyz last weekend.

"Mathare United can confirm that Boniface Omondi has left his role as head coach on mutual consent. The decision was arrived at on Thursday following a lengthy meeting between him and the club’s hierarchy.

Current goalkeeper coach Samuel Koko will assume first-team coaching duties as the club embarks on finding a suitable replacement.

Everyone at the club would like to thank Coach Omondi for his service during a very difficult three months. He joined us during our delayed start to the 2022/23 season and helped assemble a richly talented squad but results weren’t forthcoming hence the decision to part ways.

The club will provide an update on any appointment that will be made," the club wrote.

In his 46-day tenure, since his confirmation, Mathare United conceded a total of 27 goals in just 10 matches, averaging 2.7 per game and scored only 10 goals, an average of a goal per game.
