A win in the quarters will see each player get a two-bedroom house.

President William Ruto has sweetened the reward package for Harambee Stars players, coaching, and support staff participating in the CHAN tournament.

The team members are now set to receive Ksh 2.5 million each if they defeat Zambia in their final Group A match at Moi Kasarani Stadium on Sunday.

Initially, the president had announced a Ksh 1 million bonus for every victory before the tournament began. So far, the team has earned Ksh 2.5 million each for wins against DR Congo and Morocco, as well as a draw against Angola.

These results place Harambee Stars at the top of Group A and on the cusp of qualifying for the quarterfinals, needing only a draw against Zambia to advance, while a win would secure them the top spot in the group.

On Monday morning, President Ruto met with the team to congratulate them on their recent success.

In a statement posted on his social media pages, the president offered words of encouragement to all Kenyans and emphasized the importance of national unity.

“Unity has always propelled us forward. We must never allow negativity, failure, or doubt to prevent us from reaching our full potential. If we believe in ourselves and refuse to let division or hate enter the equation, Kenya can become the great nation we all dream of,” he said.

Reflecting on the team's achievements, the President continued, “The Harambee Stars are proof of what unity can achieve. They have brought the country together, and we are all witnessing the success it is bringing to the nation. We stand behind you, praying that this time we win with CHAN because it’s within close reach.”

President Ruto revealed that the upcoming match against Zambia carries even bigger rewards.

Each player will earn Ksh 2.5 million if they secure a win. Furthermore, he pledged an additional Ksh 1 million and a two-bedroom affordable housing unit at a location of their choice for every player if the team reaches the semifinals.

Met the team to congratulate them on their victory over Morocco and their historic qualification for the CHAN knockout stages. We’ve also agreed on rewards: A win against Zambia next Sunday will earn each player KSh2.5 million. If they triumph in the quarter-finals, each will be gifted KSh1 million and a two-bedroom affordable housing unit in a location of their choice.”

The Benni McCarthy-led Harambee Stars now have a week to prepare for the crucial encounter against a Zambian side that is realistically out of the tournament. The decisive match kicks off at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on Sunday at 3 PM.
