The former Tusker player suffered a knee injury in April.

Injured Gor Mahia midfielder Sydney Ochieng has ruled out the possibility of featuring for the club in the remaining matches of the season despite nearing a return to training.

Ochieng suffered a knee injury early last month while in action against defending champions Tusker at Thika Stadium where he was hauled off hardly three minutes into the game.

The injury proved a blessing in disguise to budding Paul Ochuoga as he was handed his league debut after coming on the injured player.

The versatile midfielder who joined the record Kenyan champions from the now-defunct Western Stima revealed that he was hoping to resume light training starting next week but given the frailty of the injured knee, he feels he will not be fully fit before the end of the season.

"I think the season is over for me as I may need more than a month to recover fully. The nerves around the knee area have been failing me from time to time. I tried light training a few days ago and the results were severe pains. I intend to try again next week in line with advice from the medics, " he said.

Meanwhile, the midfielder challenged the rest of the team to work their socks off in the remaining matches as the team had a mathematical chance of winning the title.

Gor who surrendered the title to Tusker last season trail the latter by nine points and may close in the holders should they win the game in hand even as they anticipate a positive outcome of their game and Vihiga Bullets.

Two months ago, the Sports Disputes Tribunal suspended the decision by the caretaker committee to award Bullets three points from the game that was abandoned at halftime at a time when they were leading 1-0.

"We are still in contention for the title and thus, the fit players should fight up to the final match. They should treat the remaining matches as finals," he added.
