Batoto ba Mungu confirmed their drop to the National Super League (NSL) earlier this month after a dramatic 2-2 draw against Mathare United ended their 17-year stay in the top flight.
Despite failing to save the 2009 league champions from relegation, Manoah says he is ready to remain at the club and guide them through the rebuilding process ahead of next season.
“Leaving will be a sign of weakness. I’d like to be the person who is there for the team when it’s down. Sofapaka needs someone who will be there for them in this tough moment, and I would like to be the person to engineer their rebuild,” offered the veteran gaffer.
The experienced tactician joined Sofapaka in March on a short-term three-month contract after the club parted ways with Ezekiel Akwana in a desperate attempt to avoid relegation.
However, the former Mara Sugar head coach could not turn around the club’s fortunes, managing four draws and four defeats in the eight matches he has overseen.
His current deal expires next month, with the club expected to hold discussions at the end of the season to determine whether both parties will continue working together.
It now remains to be seen whether club president Elly Kalekwa will hand Manoah the responsibility of leading the side’s push for an immediate return to the top tier despite the failed survival mission.
Still, the veteran coach believes the relegation could provide an opportunity for reflection and restructuring within the club.
“Every journey has setbacks. Even if it was a heartbreaking moment, it gives the team an opportunity to reflect and come back stronger,” he added.
“Sofapaka is a big institution that has immensely contributed to the growth of Kenyan football. It is a team that has nurtured many talents, and it will only be fair to keep the spirit alive.”
The 56-year-old coach is now hoping to help the side finish the season positively, with Sofapaka set to face KCB in their next FKF Premier League assignment on Wednesday.
