Although he brought them a trophy after a 17-year drought, Tottenham gave up on Brennan Johnson, offloading him to Crystal Palace

Last May, Tottenham Hotspur won their first piece of silverware since 2008. And not just any trophy, but the UEFA Europa League title, their fourth major European honour and the first since 1984.

The hero of Spurs' triumph was Brennan Johnson, who scored the trophy-winning goal in the 42nd minute of the clash against Manchester United. And now, seven months later, he's on the club's exit door!

Even though he wrote his name in golden letters in the North London side's history books and was Tottenham's leading scorer last season with 18 goals in all competitions, the Welshman is set to move, but not too far - only to the Southern part of the English capital.

According to The Athletic, the Spurs have agreed to Johnson's transfer to Crystal Palace, which is expected to cost €40 million. Now, it only remains for the player to accept the move.

If the deal were realized, Johnson would become the fourth-largest sale in Tottenham's history, after Gareth Bale (€101 million, Real Madrid), Harry Kane (€95 million, Bayern Munich), and Kyle Walker (€52.7 million, Manchester City).

At the same time, he'd represent a significant reinforcement for Oliver Glasner's squad and join Jean-Philippe Mateta, Eddie Nketiah, Ismaila Sarr, and Christantus Uche as another attacking option.

Johnson joined Spurs in September 2023 from Nottingham Forest for €55 million. In two and a half seasons in North London, he made 106 appearances, scoring 27 goals and providing 18 assists.

However, this season, under the new manager Thomas Frank, he had a significantly reduced role, playing 22 games but only ten as a starter, and averaging around 40 minutes per game.
