Abuya was introduced in the second half and provided the assist for Yanga’s second goal, helping the defending champions regain control of the match and return to the top of the league standings.

Angola international Depu continued his strong start at the club by scoring twice as Yanga overturned a first-half deficit to collect maximum points and move to the summit of the table with 22 points.

Dodoma Jiji executed a compact and disciplined game plan in the opening half, limiting Yanga’s space and disrupting their rhythm.

Their approach paid off in the 42nd minute when Edgar Williams opened the scoring following a turnover in Yanga’s build-up play. Nelson Munganga delivered a through pass that split the defence, allowing Williams to finish past goalkeeper Djigui Diarra.

Yanga responded in stoppage time when Maxi Nzengeli was fouled inside the penalty area by Andy Bikoko. Depu converted the resulting penalty in first half added time to level the scores.

In the second half, Yanga increased their tempo and control of possession. The turnaround was completed in the 61st minute when Depú scored his second goal after receiving a pass from Abuya. The goal marked Depú’s third of the season in just two league appearances.

Prince Dube added a third goal in the 67th minute, capitalising on defensive errors to seal the result. It was his fourth league goal of the campaign.

The victory lifted Young Africans to the top of the standings with 22 points. Up next for Yanga is a CAF Champions League fixture against Al Ahly on Saturday.

Clarke Oduor
