Yanga controlled large spells of the first half, patiently working their way around a compact Namungo defence that spent much of the opening period absorbing pressure
Harambee Stars midfielder, Duke Abuya, was on the score sheet as Young Africans SC strengthened their grip at the top of the Tanzanian Premier League table with a 3-1 victory over Namungo at the KMC Complex in Mwenge, Dar es Salaam, on Monday.
The result moved Yanga to 60 points as the defending champions continue their push for a fifth consecutive league title.
Abuya opened the scoring in the 26th minute after finishing a well-worked attacking move.
Mohamed Damaro won possession before Allan Okello combined with Mudathir Yahya to release the Kenyan midfielder, who drove through the middle and calmly slotted past the goalkeeper.
Yanga controlled large spells of the first half, patiently working their way around a compact Namungo defence that spent much of the opening period absorbing pressure.
Despite limited attacking opportunities, Namungo drew level in the 40th minute through Salum Kabunda, who connected with a cross from Bakari Hussein to score his second goal in consecutive matches following his strike against Mbeya City.
The equaliser ended a solid defensive run for Yanga goalkeeper Djigui Diarra, centre-backs Bakari Mwamnyeto and Ibrahim 'Bacca' Abdallah, who had recently overseen back-to-back clean sheets in league and cup competition.
Both sides went into the break level at 1-1, with Yanga’s technical bench led by Abdihamid Moallin and Patrick Mabedi responding with a tactical adjustment at the start of the second half.
Edmund John was introduced for Damaro in midfield, allowing Mudathir to operate from a deeper role while adding more attacking presence in central areas.
The change quickly paid off as Yanga regained control and restored their lead in the 53rd minute.
A misplaced pass from Namungo captain Jacob Massawe was intercepted before Clement Mzize delivered into the box for Okello to finish clinically.
Okello completed his brace in the 85th minute to seal the victory and continue his impressive form since joining Yanga in January 2026.
The two goals took his league tally to 11, leaving him one behind Azam FC midfielder Feisal Salum in the race for the 'Golden Boot'.
For Namungo, the defeat extended a difficult run of form.
The club is now without a victory in 16 consecutive competitive matches, a streak that includes seven draws and nine defeats.
