The win lifts Rakow to fifth in the standings with 14 points after eight rounds.
Kenyan international Collins Sichenje returned from injury on Sunday as his side, FK Vojvodina, ended a terrible run with a 2-0 win over Zeleznicar Pancevo in a Serbian league match.
Sichenje had missed the previous league match due to injury, which also kept him out of Kenya’s games against Zimbabwe and Namibia in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
On Sunday, he came on as a halftime substitute in the win. The victory ended the club’s nine-match winless streak and eased pressure on the club.
The home team started well, winning a ninth-minute penalty, which Petrovic Njegos stepped forward to take. Although he initially failed to score, he was given a chance to retake the penalty, which he fired home.
Two minutes before the interval, Caleb Zady doubled the lead, giving the hosts a two-goal cushion heading into halftime. They defended their advantage in the second half to secure maximum points.
The win lifts Vojvodina to eighth place in the standings, with eight points after seven rounds of league matches. Next for them is an away match against FK IMT Novi Beograd on Sunday 22 September.
Joseph Okumu
In France, Joseph Okumu was an unused substitute for Stade de Reims in their 2-1 win over Nantes. Marshall Munetsi and Keito Nakamura scored the goals for Reims, while Douglas Augusto netted a consolation strike for the home team. Nakamura’s goal came in stoppage time and secured the win.
The victory lifts Reims to sixth place in the standings, with seven points after four rounds of the French Ligue 1. They will next host Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday 21 September.
Erick Ouma
In Poland, Erick Ouma was introduced in the 56th minute as his side, Rakow, beat Legia in a league match. Jean Carlos scored the decisive goal in the 41st minute.
The win lifts Rakow to fifth in the standings with 14 points after eight rounds.
