The fifth-round encounter, in Stockholm, highlighted Wilson’s growing importance to the team, with the young Kenyan continuing to adapt to a defensive role.

He remained disciplined throughout, contributing both defensively and in build-up play, even as AIK slipped to a second consecutive league defeat.

The evening began on an emotional note as AIK supporters paid tribute to retiring club legend Nabil Bahoui.

A large tifo display and banner filled the North Stand, celebrating one of the club’s modern greats in a powerful pre-match moment.

Once the game got underway, both sides started cautiously before AIK began to settle.

Early efforts from Bersant Celina went off target, while Malmö threatened through Sead Haksabanovic, who came close from distance.

Despite AIK’s growing control, it was Malmö who broke the deadlock in the 25th minute.

Goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt made an initial save, but the rebound fell kindly to Haksabanovic, who delivered a cross for Erik Botheim to head home the only goal of the match.

The match briefly paused for a heartfelt tribute to former AIK goalkeeper Ivan Turina, as fans marked 13 years since his passing.

AIK returned for the second half with greater urgency, pushing forward in search of an equalizer.

Wilson maintained his role at fullback, helping to drive play from deep as the hosts created several chances.

Celina came closest when he broke through one-on-one in the 72nd minute, but his effort was saved.

Despite dominating the closing stages, AIK could not find a breakthrough.

Malmö managed the tempo late on and held firm to secure all three points.
