Police, who are the reigning league champions, will be seeking their first win of the season after being held by Ulinzi Stars to a draw.
The FKF Premier League round four weekend action continues as fans will be entertained by five matches taking place today, Sunday, 10 May, across different venues.
Four of the five matches will be spread across the capital, Nairobi, while Kericho Green Stadium will see a return of top-tier matches for the first time since 10 March 2020, when Zoo FC hosted Western Stima.
Twenty-one-time record league champions Gor Mahia will be away to KCB in a match scheduled to take place at Dandora Stadium from 1500 hrs.
Both teams have had mixed results since the league started. K’Ogalo have won one and lost one of their two matches, while KCB have won two and lost one this season.
Gor are under pressure this season to reclaim the league title they lost to Kenya Police FC last season.
After losing their season opener, Gor found a winning formula to emerge with a 2-0 victory over Sofapaka in their last match.
According to the team’s midfielder Alpha Chris Onyango, they are banking on the confidence from that match to propel them to victory over KCB.
On the other hand, the Bankers, who hired three-time league champion Robert Matano to steer the club, will be out to record a third league victory of the season.
Last season, Gor picked four points from KCB — a goalless draw in the first leg and a 1-0 victory in the return leg. The Kenyan giants have also not tasted defeat against KCB in their last five meetings.
Tusker vs Shabana
One of the biggest highlights of the day will be the clash between 12-time league champions Tusker FC and Shabana, which will go down at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, from 1600 hrs.
The Brewers head into the match under intense pressure, having not won any of their three opening matches — losing two and drawing one.
Coach Charles Okere is a man under siege and will be keen to salvage the team’s fortunes with victory over Shabana.
The Kisii-based club have picked up from their form last season and have been flying this season, boasting a 100 percent start so far.
The Glamour Boys will be out to record victory in what is their first match in Nairobi this season.
Shabana will be hoping to pounce on the low confidence within Tusker to inflict more pain on the Brewers and reclaim their position at the top of the table.
However, Shabana are still sweating over the availability of their star man Brian Michira, who limped off during their last match against Bandari FC.
The Slum derby
Today’s league action also includes the Slum Derby pitting Mathare United against Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani Annex - Upper from 1300 hrs.
This fixture has proven to be exciting over the years and attracts an admirable number of fans, largely drawn from the slums of Mathare and Kariobangi.
For Mathare, this fixture comes after a mixed start to the season, having recorded a win, a draw, and a loss in their three matches.
For Sharks, they have had a slow start to the season, registering two draws and a loss in their three matches.
In seeking their first win, William Muluya and his troops will find solace in their recent results in this fixture.
The 2018 Mozzart Bet Cup winners picked four points from Mathare last season and have lost only one of their last five games against the 2008 league champions.
APS Bomet vs Kenya Police
The highly anticipated National Police Service Derby, pitting APS Bomet (affiliated with the Administration Police) against Kenya Police FC from the Kenya Police Service, will go down today.
The Police Derby will be played at Kericho Green Stadium from 1400 hrs, marking a return of top-tier action to the stadium recently famous for hosting former FKFPL side Zoo FC.
Police, who are the reigning league champions, will be seeking their first win of the season after being held by Ulinzi Stars to a draw.
With experience and quality favouring them, Police are favourites to win the match, as APS, who have lost both of their opening matches, still struggle to find their rhythm in the top tier.
Ulinzi Stars vs Mara Sugar
At the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Lang’ata, military outfit Ulinzi Stars will host Mara Sugar from 1500 hrs.
Ulinzi will be out to get back to winning ways after their two matches ended in draws. Nevertheless, the five points garnered so far and the three clean sheets signify a good start for the 2010 champions.
On the other hand, Mara Sugar have not had as good a start to the season as they did in their maiden league campaign.
The Sugar Millers have not scored a goal in any of their two matches, having drawn one and lost one.
