The triumph sees K’Ogalo extend their record as Kenya’s most successful club while also becoming the biggest financial beneficiaries of the revamped league prize structure introduced this season

Gor Mahia will walk away with a record Ksh15 million in prize money after clinching the 2025/2026 FKF Premier League title with two matches to spare.

K’Ogalo sealed the title on Sunday after second-placed AFC Leopards suffered a 2-1 defeat to APS Bomet at Kericho Green Stadium, a result that mathematically settled the race.

Ironically, Gor Mahia were not even in action after their scheduled fixture against Mara Sugar was postponed.

However, Ingwe’s defeat meant the gap at the top became unreachable with only one game left for Leopards, confirming Gor Mahia as league champions once again.

The triumph sees K’Ogalo extend their record as Kenya’s most successful club while also becoming the biggest financial beneficiaries of the revamped league prize structure introduced this season.

Out of the Ksh20 million total prize pool unveiled before the start of the campaign, Gor Mahia are guaranteed Ksh15 million, the highest amount ever awarded to a Kenyan league winner.

The club has already announced that Ksh5 million from the winnings will be shared among players and members of the technical bench as part of rewarding the squad for delivering the title.

The revised prize structure was introduced during the unveiling of the FKF Premier League sponsor earlier in the season.

Initially, Ksh6 million had been allocated as prize money before the league sponsor injected an additional Ksh4 million to raise the figure to Ksh10 million.

The Football Kenya Federation later matched the amount with another Ksh10 million, bringing the total package to Ksh20 million.

Under the arrangement, runners-up AFC Leopards are set to receive Ksh3 million for finishing second, while the club that ends the season in third place will pocket Ksh2 million.

The battle for third position remains open, with Kenya Police FC and Shabana FC still in contention.

Police currently occupy third place with 53 points and have two matches remaining, while Shabana sit just one point behind on 52 with one game left to play.

During the launch of the new prize structure, FKF said the move was aimed at improving competitiveness and rewarding clubs more meaningfully for their performances.

“The champions will now receive 15 million shillings, an increase from the previous five million, while the runners-up and second runners-up will compete for the remaining five million,” read part of a federation statement released at the time.

FKF president Hussein Mohammed also confirmed the federation’s contribution towards the increased rewards.

“In addition to the ten million shillings mentioned, FKF will inject another ten million. The clubs will now have 20 million shillings to be shared among the top three finishers at the end of the season.

This means the champions will get up to 15 million shillings, three million will go to the second-place team, and two million to the third,” said Hussein.

The Ksh15 million payout marks a major shift in Kenyan football, especially considering that last season’s champions, Kenya Police, did not receive any prize money despite winning the league title.
