This is how World Champs crush rivals! But, is there any magic that can save Potter his job?!
Reading Time: 4min | Fri. 22.08.25. | 23:58
Chelsea destroyed West Ham on the road 5-1 and made their ex-boss Graham Potter a leading candidate for the first sack in the new Premier League season
Are the Blues this good, or are the Hammers absolutely abysmal? The remainder of the season will tell us that, though it seems that tonight's clash at London Stadium was a mixture of both.
The only good thing Graham Potter's men did in the match happened in the sixth minute when Lucas Paqueta scored a banger and broke the deadlock. Afterwards, everything was horrendous for the home team.
At the break, Chelsea were 3-1 up, and at the hour mark, the scoreboard showed 5-1. The goals were coming one after another, and the scorers were various, like in a training session: Joao Pedro, Pedro Neto, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Trevoh Chalobah. The Hammers looked so "hammered" that a number of their fans left the stands, unable to watch their team's catastrophe.
And the Blues did all that without Cole Palmer who suffered an injury during the pre-game warming up and didn't play tonight. Luckily for the home team, the visitors hit the brakes and enjoyed the rest of the game without pushing it to the limit, so the score remained 5-1 after the ref's final whistle.

Chelsea were down practically from the beginning as Lucas Paqueta unleashed a bomb from a distance, scoring an absolute golazo for the explosion at the packed London Stadium!
Still, the Hammers' joy lasted only nine minutes, as Chelsea almost instantly responded. Pedro Neto took a corner kick, Marc Cucurella flicked the ball to the far post, where Joao Pedro headed it in the net, levelling the score!

Niclas Fullkrug netted just two minutes later, but West Ham's hopes were futile, as that goal was disallowed for Jean-Clair Todibo's offside. Nevertheless, the crowd at London Stadium witnessed another goal just minutes later, and this time, there was no mistake - Chelsea were in the lead!
Paqueta lost the ball dangerously near West Ham's box, Joao Pedro crossed the ball to the far post, finding Neto, who smashed it into the net and completed the Blues' comeback - 2-1!

However, Enzo Maresca's lads didn't want to stop there. Eleven minutes before the break, Palmer's replacement in the XI, Estevao, made a fantastic solo effort and assisted to the captain Enzo Fernandez, who just passed the ball into the empty net, making it 3-1!
The Hammers conceded as many as three goals in the first half, and some of their disappointed fans started leaving the stands already at the break.
Chelsea opened the second half with a massive chance for Fernandez, but that was only an introduction to West Ham's destruction.
Between the 54th and 58th minutes, the Blues took two corner kicks and scored two goals, both after melees in the Hammers' box! The only differences were the takers, Enzo and Neto, and the scorers, Moises Caicedo and Trevoh Chalobah.

The clock showed an hour, and Potter and his men were 5-1 down, while a number of their fans were leaving the stadium. At that point, the strategist probably wondered if there was a magic that could help him keep his job.
Afterwards, Maresca gave a chance to some newcomers and his boys peacefully awaited the ref's final whistle. At the same time, they made a significant step forward after a disappointing draw against Crystal Palace a week ago, and gave a new confidence boost to their fans.
